True Grit (1969)

Determined to bring her father's killer to justice, Mattie Ross hires a lawman with a reputation as formidable as his temper. John Wayne stars as the hard-drinking, one-eyed U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn, whose pursuit becomes considerably more complicated when his headstrong young employer insists on joining him. With Texas Ranger La Boeuf also on the trail, three very different personalities must find a way to work together.

Directed by Henry Hathaway, this classic Western pairs frontier adventure with the friction between Kim Darby's resolute Mattie, Glen Campbell's ranger and Wayne's cantankerous marshal. Wayne's performance earned him an Academy Award, making Rooster Cogburn a defining role for viewers exploring his screen career.
