Summer, 1983. Twelve-year-old Shaun is growing up without his father, who died in the Falklands War, when a group of local skinheads offers him friendship and a sense of belonging. In This Is England, writer-director Shane Meadows follows a young boy’s search for acceptance as an apparently welcoming new world takes a darker turn.
Thomas Turgoose stars as Shaun, alongside Stephen Graham as Combo, whose return from prison introduces racist politics and threatens to divide the group. Blending moments of humour and warmth with a disturbing examination of prejudice, the film explores identity, loyalty and the danger of finding belonging in the wrong place.
