Sweeney Todd – The Director's Cut

In the harsh streets of London in 1765, barber Sweeney Todd tries to make a quiet life in the shadow of Newgate Prison. But the return of his troubled past unleashes darker impulses, while his relationship with pie-shop owner Mrs Lovett develops into a destructive partnership. As the Bow Street Runners investigate disturbing discoveries in the Fleet River, the threat of capture draws closer.

Ray Winstone stars as the notorious barber opposite Essie Davis as Mrs Lovett in this 2006 BBC television film. Directed by David Moore from an original screenplay by Joshua St Johnston, it approaches the legend as a dark period drama of love, obsession and murder. Tom Hardy, David Warner and David Bradley complete the principal supporting cast.
