Shopgirl DVD (2005) | Claire Danes & Steve Martin | Jason Schwartzman & Bridgette Wilson | Written by Steve Martin | Based on His Novella | Dir. Anand Tucker | 15 Cert | New & Sealed

She works in the glove department of a Los Angeles department store. Two men want her. Neither is straightforward. Claire Danes and Steve Martin star in Shopgirl (2005) on DVD. Written by Steve Martin and based on his own 2000 novella, the film follows Mirabelle Buttersfield (Danes) — lonely, talented, adrift in Los Angeles — who finds herself caught between two very different men: Ray Porter (Martin), a wealthy and sophisticated businessman who offers comfort without commitment, and Jeremy (Schwartzman), a broke and chaotic musician who may be capable of more than he appears. Directed by Anand Tucker. A quiet, wistful and beautifully observed romantic drama — closer in tone to literature than to comedy. Also starring Jason Schwartzman and Bridgette Wilson. 104 minutes. 15 cert.
