This time the target is Francis Dollarhyde (Tom Noonan), the Tooth Fairy, who kills entire families by moonlight. Graham has to understand how the killer thinks. Which means he has to think like the killer. Which means he has to go back to Lecktor. Cox plays Lecktor cold, still and entirely without Hopkins’s theatrical flourish — and it is deeply unnerving. Mann’s visual style, the electronic soundtrack and Tom Noonan’s performance as Dollarhyde make this one of the defining crime films of the 1980s.
