Josie and the Pussycats | DVD (2001) | Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid & Rosario Dawson | PG | New & Sealed

A breakthrough record deal should be a dream come true for an all-girl band. In Josie and the Pussycats, sudden fame leads Josie, Melody and Valerie into a music industry where the hit songs conceal a subliminal advertising conspiracy. As their profile grows, the friends must look beyond the glamour to discover what is really being sold.

Directed by Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, this 2001 music comedy combines the band’s rise to stardom with a playful satire of marketing and manufactured celebrity. Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid and Rosario Dawson star as the central trio, with Alan Cumming and Parker Posey bringing the record-industry scheming to life. It is a colourful blend of friendship, pop culture and comic mischief based on the Archie Comics characters.
