I Am Sam | DVD | 2001 | Sean Penn, Michelle Pfeiffer & Dakota Fanning | New & Sealed

A father’s determination to remain part of his daughter’s life is at the heart of I Am Sam, the 2001 drama directed by Jessie Nelson. Sean Penn plays Sam Dawson, a single father with an intellectual disability who has raised his daughter Lucy with help from a close circle of friends. When concerns about his ability to care for her lead to a custody battle, their relationship faces its greatest challenge.

Michelle Pfeiffer stars as Rita Harrison, the lawyer who takes on Sam’s case, while Dakota Fanning plays Lucy. As Sam and Rita work together, the case prompts both of them to reconsider what it means to be a parent. Their story explores love, responsibility and the importance of support, anchored by the bond between father and daughter.
