East Is East is the acclaimed 1999 British comedy-drama directed by Damien O'Donnell and starring Om Puri, Linda Bassett and Jimi Mistry.

Set in Salford in 1971, the film follows Pakistani-born father George Khan, known as "Genghis" to his children, who runs a fish-and-chip shop with his English wife Ella. George is determined to raise his seven children according to traditional Pakistani values, while his British-born children increasingly want to make their own choices.

The film explores family, identity, cultural differences and generational conflict with a mixture of comedy and drama. It was also recognised at the BAFTAs, winning the award for Best British Film.
