East Is East | DVD (1999) | Om Puri, Linda Bassett & Jimi Mistry | Directed by Damien O'Donnell | New & Sealed

Salford, 1971. George Khan is determined to raise his children according to traditional Pakistani values, but they are growing up with ideas of their own. East Is East follows a British-Pakistani household caught between parental expectations and the children’s desire to choose their own paths.

Directed by Damien O’Donnell, this 1999 British comedy drama stars Om Puri and Linda Bassett alongside Jimi Mistry and Archie Panjabi. Humour and conflict sit side by side as the family negotiates questions of belonging, identity and independence. Its appeal lies in the competing perspectives within one household, giving the comedy an emotional centre rather than easy answers.
