Mark Dacascos stars as Yo Hinomura, a talented artist who is kidnapped and transformed against his will into a highly skilled assassin known as Freeman. After carrying out each assassination, Freeman is haunted by his actions and sheds tears of remorse.

During one assignment, Freeman is witnessed by Emu O'Hara, played by Julie Condra. Instead of killing the witness as ordered, Freeman falls in love with her, setting off a dangerous chain of events involving the Yakuza, rival criminal organisations and deadly assassins.

Based on the popular Japanese manga by Kazuo Koike and Ryoichi Ikegami, Crying Freeman combines martial arts action, crime, romance and Japanese gangster cinema.
