A Thousand Acres | DVD | 1997 | Jessica Lange, Michelle Pfeiffer & Jennifer Jason Leigh | New & Sealed

A family inheritance brings buried tensions to the surface in A Thousand Acres, a 1997 drama starring Jessica Lange, Michelle Pfeiffer and Jennifer Jason Leigh. When Iowa farmer Larry Cook decides to divide his thousand-acre farm among his three daughters, what appears to be a generous gesture becomes the catalyst for a painful struggle over loyalty, power and the past.

Directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse, the film adapts Jane Smiley’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, a reworking of Shakespeare’s King Lear told from the daughters’ perspective. Long-guarded secrets and unspoken rivalries challenge the family’s outward stability, giving the rural setting a darker emotional undercurrent.
